Job Description

Job Title: Business Development Head
Location: Nairobi
Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience, starting at KES 200,000 gross

Role Overview
On behalf of our client we are seeking a strategic and dynamic Business Development Head to lead our Business Development Team. This senior-level role is critical in driving the growth and expansion of our pharmaceutical portfolio while fostering relationships with key stakeholders. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, the Business Development Head will oversee strategic planning, team leadership, and market penetration initiatives to ensure the achievement of the company’s long-term goals.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Planning and Execution
• Develop and implement a comprehensive business development strategy aligned with the company’s vision and objectives.
• Identify new market opportunities and establish strategies for penetration and growth.
• Oversee the launch of new products, ensuring market readiness and successful execution.
2. Team Leadership and Development
• Lead and mentor the Business Development Team, fostering a culture of high performance and accountability.
• Set and monitor KPIs to ensure team objectives are met or exceeded.
• Conduct regular training and development sessions to enhance team skills and knowledge.
3. Client and Stakeholder Relationship Management
• Build and nurture strong relationships with key clients, distributors, and other stakeholders.
• Represent the company in high-level meetings, industry events, and networking opportunities.
4. Financial and Performance Management
• Prepare and oversee annual budgets, sales forecasts, and profitability targets.
• Monitor financial performance and implement corrective actions as necessary.
• Ensure optimal resource allocation for maximum return on investment.
5. Market Research and Competitive Analysis
• Conduct in-depth market research to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
• Analyze competitor strategies and recommend actions to maintain a competitive edge.
6. Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Collaborate with the finance, production, and marketing teams to align business development initiatives with overall company goals.
• Act as the bridge between the management team and operational departments, ensuring seamless communication and coordination.
Qualifications
• 5+ years of experience in business development, sales, or a senior management role, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or a related field; MBA is a strong advantage.
• Proven track record of successfully driving business growth and achieving sales targets.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with CRM software.
• Knowledge of Gujarati and Swahili is an added advantage.
