Job Summary:
We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Occupational Health and Safety Officer to oversee health and safety policies, procedures, and practices in the workplace. The OHS Officer will be responsible for ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety legislation, promoting a safe working environment, and reducing workplace risks through training, audits, and inspections.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and maintain occupational health and safety policies, procedures, and programs.
Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
Ensure compliance with national and organizational health and safety standards and regulations.
Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, and prepare detailed reports with recommended preventative measures.
Provide health and safety training and induction for staff, contractors, and visitors.
Maintain accurate records of incidents, safety inspections, training sessions, and regulatory compliance.
Participate in emergency response planning and coordinate drills (e.g., fire, evacuation).
Collaborate with management and employees to promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
Stay up to date with legislation, industry trends, and best practices in occupational health and safety.
Liaise with government and regulatory agencies when required (e.g., OSHA, NEMA, DOSH ).
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field (master's degree preferred).
Certification in Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA, IOSH) is required.
Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in a similar role.
Knowledge of national health and safety laws and standards.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with incident reporting software.
