Position: Assistant Cook

Location: Mara Girls Leadership School, Talek, Maasai Mara
Contract Duration: 9 months contract (Renewable)
Introduction
Basecamp foundation is a non-profit organization. We are seeking a skilled and passionate Assistant Cook to join our team at Mara Girls Leadership School in Masai Mara.
Job Description
The successful candidate will be expected to carry out the following Duties & Responsibilities.
Planning menus and overseeing food preparation.
Managing food costs and implementing cost-saving measures.
Ensuring proper handling, cleaning, and maintenance of kitchen equipment and utensils.
Preparing and serving nutritious meals.
Inspecting the quality and quantity of food supplies received.
Managing food storage and inventory control.
Performing additional duties as assigned by the Head Teacher.
Qualifications
A diploma in Catering, Food Production, or a related field and Minimum 2 years of experience in a kitchen, preferably in a school setting.
Or KCSE Certificate (Minimum D-) with 3 -5 years’ experience of working in a school setting.
A valid public health certificate (from previous employment) is mandatory.
Working Experience
Culinary Skills and Knowledge:
Food Preparation: Ability to prepare a variety of meals, including following recipes and adapting them to different needs.
Cooking Techniques: Knowledge of different cooking methods (baking, roasting, frying, etc.).
Knife Skills: Proficiency in basic knife skills for safety and efficient food preparation.
Food Safety and Hygiene: Understanding of basic school food safety regulations, proper handling of food, and maintaining a clean kitchen environment and a basic knowledge of common contaminated food illnesses.
Nutrition Knowledge: Understanding of basic nutrition principles and the ability to prepare meals that meet the nutritional needs of school children.
Adaptability & Innovation: Ability to us locally available ingredients to prepare nutritious palatable meals for teenage learners.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Strong communication skills.
Ability to work effectively in a team.
